This blue lapis gem stone fine fountain pen is a great example of the unique materials used in fine pens. If you are very picky about pens …well… we are a lot alike. I do not produce any pens that are “ok.” They have to be awesome and flawless before I will have a pen for sale.

CHILEAN LAPIS (trustone)

In the New World where lapis has been mined for well over a thousand years in what is now northern Chile, the Moche, a culture that thrived on the desert-like coast of northern Peru from 200BC - 800 AD, were skilled metalworkers, producing body ornaments of gold, silver, copper, and alloys, often inlaying them with lapis. Chilean lapis is real lapis that has been powered and combined with approx. 10% gem resin to get it structural integrity and the ability to be turned and shaped on a lathe. It has streaks of calcite running through the bright blue lapis to make a very high quality handcrafted fountain pen.

THE PEN DESIGN
This is a new style of high end pen that I have fallen in love with. Parts wise it has some of the most expensive pen components on the market. The stainless steel components to this handcrafted fountain pen are machined by hand. Pretty cool. Virtually all of the pen parts you see on etsy or anywhere else for that matter…are not hand machined, they are mass produced. There is nothing wrong with the mass produced parts. The better pens are unmatched for quality. I think it is pretty cool that a guy named Mark, in Georgia, made the stainless steel pen components. The metal components are top notch…just awesome quality. 

THE PEN
This handcrafted pen is made of high end collector grade Lapis trustone. Lapis trustone come to me in a rectangular block. I cut the block to precise detail to fit this pen style and placed it on my lathe. Using many different tools, I carefully hand shaped the block of lapis to the shape it is now. It takes patience and careful attention to detail to create a distinctive and highly functional form. Once the shape is perfect, I then lightly sanded the pen body, not with “sandpaper” but a pen grade micro mesh. After that, I used liquid polish to achieve a shine that really stands out. I think often a pen is the expression of one’s self. I have such a blast on the journey to “the perfect pen”! 

FOUNTAIN PEN COMPONENTS
The superior quality nib is made in Germany by the Schmidt Company. It is different than most nibs you see here on etsy or similar handmade sites. It is tipped with iridium. The Schmidt company specializes in writing technology and have some the best fountain pen nibs you can buy…anywhere. The The metal components to this made by hand pen are high grade stainless steel. The parts were hand machined to be very precise. The parts are simple but feel awesome to hold. 

THE CASE
Included in the special is a Bubinga wood case! It will look great on any desk or will enhance the pen as a gift for someone very special.
